Privacy Policy

Walk Calories for iOS · Last updated 8 September 2026

This policy explains what Walk Calories does with your information. It covers the Walk Calories iOS app published by Hbrothers L.L.C. (doing business as Hbro Studio) and nothing else.

The short version. Walk Calories has no account, no ads, no tracking and no analytics SDK. Your steps, your body profile, your goal and the walks you record are stored on your iPhone and are never sent to us. The app does fetch one public setting from Firebase (whether to ask you to rate the app). That request does not include your health data.

Who we are

Walk Calories is published by Hbrothers L.L.C., trading as Hbro Studio. The app is identified on the App Store as Walk Calories (App Store ID 6803917663, bundle identifier com.hbrothers.walkcalories).

Questions about this policy go to info@hbro-studio.com. Our website is https://www.hbro-studio.com. This page is published at https://www.hbro-studio.com/walking-tracker-policy.

What we do not do

  • We do not ask you to create an account, sign in, or give us your name, email address or phone number in order to use the app.
  • We do not show advertising and we do not work with advertising networks.
  • We do not track you, across this app or any other app or website. The app contains no analytics, advertising, crash-reporting or attribution software.
  • We do not send your health data, your location, your step counts, your profile or your recorded walks to Hbrothers L.L.C. or to any server we operate.
  • We never use health data for advertising, marketing, or data mining of any kind, and we never disclose it to third parties.
  • We do not sell or rent personal information, and we never have. We do not “share” personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising as that term is used in the CCPA/CPRA.
  • We do not use the Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA), we do not fingerprint your device, and we do not drop cookies inside the app.
  • We do not send push notifications.

Health data

Walk Calories reads the following from Apple Health, only after you grant permission in the system Health dialogue:

  • Step count
  • Walking and running distance
  • Active energy burned
  • Height
  • Body mass (weight)
  • Date of birth
  • Biological sex

These are used on your device for one purpose: to display your activity and to estimate the calories your walking burned.

  • Height and weight feed that estimate. Height is used only as a fallback for stride length when Apple Health does not have enough walking distance to learn your own. Weight is used in the calorie formula. Neither is used to set or change your step goal.
  • Date of birth and biological sex can be imported from Apple Health or typed in during onboarding, and are stored with your profile on the device. They do not currently change the calorie formula or your step goal, and they are never sent to us.

If you allow write access, the app can save a walk you recorded as a walking workout in Apple Health. That workout may include:

  • Start and end time
  • Distance
  • Estimated active energy
  • The GPS route of the walk

The app never writes your daily step samples back to Apple Health. The phone already records those itself.

Health data is read and written only through Apple Health, under your control. You can review or revoke every individual permission at any time in the iOS Settings app, under Privacy & Security → Health → Walk Calories. The app keeps working without Health access; it simply shows less, and it will not save workouts.

We never use health data for advertising, marketing, or data mining, and we never disclose it to a third party. That is a requirement of the App Store for any app that reads HealthKit, and it is also how this app is built.

What stays on your iPhone

All of the following is stored on your device only, in storage readable only by this app (the app’s own UserDefaults and its local SwiftData store):

  • Your profile. Height, weight, date of birth and biological sex, whether typed in or imported from Apple Health.
  • Your goal history, streak-related flags and unit preference (automatic, metric or imperial).
  • Recorded walks. Start and end time, active duration, distance, live step count if Motion access was available, estimated calories, whether the walk was saved to Apple Health, and the GPS points of the route.
  • An in-progress walk. While a session is running, a local snapshot is written on the device so the walk can come back paused if iOS stops the app. That snapshot is discarded when the walk is finished, discarded, or left stale (it is treated as abandoned after 12 hours).
  • App settings. Whether you have completed onboarding, and whether you have already been asked to rate the app.

Deleting the app removes all of it from the device. Workouts you chose to save into Apple Health remain in Apple Health, because they belong to you and not to this app.

If iCloud Backup is turned on for this iPhone, Apple may include this app’s local storage in the encrypted backup of your device. That is Apple’s backup of your phone, not collection by us. You control it in iOS Settings → [your name] → iCloud → iCloud Backup. Deleting the app stops it being included in future backups.

Permissions we ask for, and why

  • Apple Health (read). To read the step, distance, energy and body values listed above, so the Today and Insights screens can show your activity and the calorie estimate.
  • Apple Health (write). Only if you allow it: to save a recorded walk as a walking workout with its route, distance and estimated energy.
  • Motion & Fitness. To count your steps live while a walk is being recorded, using the iPhone pedometer. A walk still records without it; you simply will not see a live step count for that session.
  • Location (While Using the App). To draw the route and measure the distance of a walk you started. Location is requested the first time you start a walk, not during onboarding. It is used only while a walk session is running, which is why iOS shows the blue indicator during a walk and why tracking can continue if you lock the screen or switch apps mid-walk. Background location is switched on for the lifetime of that session only, and switched off when the walk ends. The app does not request Always location, does not track you between walks, and does not receive your location when no walk is running.

You can refuse or revoke any of these in iOS Settings. The rest of the app keeps working; only the corresponding feature stops.

Apple services the app uses

Walk Calories is built on Apple frameworks. Those services are provided by Apple, not by us, and they are governed by Apple’s own privacy policy (https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/). In particular:

  • Apple Health / HealthKit. Reads and (if you allow it) writes as described above. We never receive a copy.
  • Apple Maps. When you look at a live walk or a saved walk, iOS draws a map of the area so you can see the streets under your route. Serving those map tiles is Apple Maps. We do not receive those requests, and we do not log them. The image you can share from a finished walk is drawn by the app itself from the route shape and the stats; it does not include Apple’s street map.
  • App Store / StoreKit. The in-app “Rate on the App Store” row, the optional “Should we keep this app free?” prompt, and the one-time native review prompt are Apple’s review interfaces. We do not see whether you left a review, or what you wrote.

Opening Terms of Use, this Privacy Policy, or an App Store page uses Safari or the App Store app on your device. That is you visiting those pages, not the app uploading your data.

Public app settings

Walk Calories fetches one public document from Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore) so we can turn the “Should we keep this app free?” prompt on or off without shipping an app update. That document contains a yes/no flag only. It is not tied to your Apple ID, and it does not include your health data, profile, walks or location.

Google’s processing of that network request (for example the IP address that delivers it, and a Firebase installation identifier used to contact their service) is governed by Google’s privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy. We do not use Firebase Analytics, advertising, or crash reporting in this app.

Things you send on purpose

Two actions leave the app because you chose them. Neither is required to use Walk Calories.

  • Share. After a walk, you can share a card showing the date, the route as a simple line, distance, time, steps and estimated calories. The system share sheet sends that image only to the app or person you pick (Messages, Mail, Instagram, and so on). We do not receive it.
  • Contact support. If you tap Contact support, your mail app opens a message addressed to info@hbro-studio.com with the app name and version in the subject. We then receive whatever you write, the email address you send from, and any attachment you add. We use that only to answer you. We keep support mail only as long as needed to handle the request, then delete it.

Calorie estimates are estimates

Every calorie figure in the app is marked with ≈ because it is an approximation calculated on your device from your distance, pace and body values — not a measurement from a metabolic sensor. Walk Calories is an informational fitness tool. It is not a medical device, it is not a covered entity under HIPAA, it does not provide medical advice, diagnosis or treatment, and its numbers must not be used for medical, dietary or clinical decisions. Talk to a healthcare professional before changing your activity or diet. In an emergency, contact local emergency services.

Legal basis (EEA, UK and Switzerland)

Where the GDPR, UK GDPR or Swiss FADP applies:

  • We are not a controller of the health, location or profile data stored on your iPhone, because that data is never transmitted to us and we never have access to it. Processing happens locally on your device, on your instruction, to deliver the feature you asked for. The legal basis for that on-device processing, to the extent one is needed from us, is that it is necessary to provide the service you requested (GDPR Article 6(1)(b)) and, for health data, that you have given explicit permission through Apple’s Health dialogue (GDPR Article 9(2)(a)).
  • If you email us, we are the controller of that correspondence. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering you (Article 6(1)(f)), and, where you disclose health information in the email, your consent by sending it.

There is no profiling and no automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects concerning you.

How long we keep information

On our side we keep nothing about how you use the app, because we receive nothing about how you use the app. There are no accounts, no servers and no databases for Walk Calories at Hbrothers L.L.C.

Anything held on your iPhone remains there until you delete that walk, change that setting, or delete the app. Support emails, if you send one, are kept only as long as needed to handle the request and are then deleted.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, export, restrict or object to the processing of your personal information, and to complain to your local data protection authority. California residents have equivalent rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know, to delete, to correct, and not to be discriminated against for exercising them. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined there, so there is no “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” signal for us to honour beyond the fact that we never sell or share it. Residents of Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah and similar US state privacy laws have comparable rights; the same facts apply.

Because we hold no account, no identifier and no copy of your in-app data, we have nothing on file to retrieve or erase about your steps, profile or walks. That data is deleted by deleting the app, and Health permissions are revoked in iOS Settings. If you believe we hold something about you (for example a support email), write to info@hbro-studio.com and we will respond within the time limits set by applicable law.

You may lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. In the UK that is the Information Commissioner’s Office (https://ico.org.uk). In the EEA, it is the authority of your country of residence.

Children

Walk Calories is rated 4+ on the App Store and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13 (or under 16 where that is the applicable age). Because the app has no account and no server, we do not receive information from children through the app. If you believe a child has sent us personal information by email, write to info@hbro-studio.com and we will delete it.

Security

On-device data is protected by the iOS sandbox, so other apps cannot read it. Apple Health data is stored by iOS using Apple’s Health security model. We do not transmit that data, so there is no network path from this app to us to secure. Support email is ordinary email; do not send passwords or identity documents to us.

International users

Walk Calories is offered worldwide through the App Store. Because we do not receive your in-app data, we do not transfer that data between countries. If you email us, that message is received at the mailbox for info@hbro-studio.com.

Changes to this policy

If we change how the app handles information, we will update this page and the date at the top. Material changes will be described here rather than made silently.
